In partnership with St. Matt's and The City of Hamilton, the Cathedral Café offers a daily drop-in program, Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to 4 pm.  In addition, the Cathedral Café is open as an overnight warming centre for men or persons that identify as male who are without shelter Monday to Friday 6pm to 8am, Saturday from 6pm to 6am, and Sunday 6pm to 8am until March 31, 2026.

The Cathedral Café expanded its operations from a totally volunteer run ministry to one with paid social work staff and coordinator, augmented by a team of volunteers.

We require more volunteers for the Cathedral Café under the new model as the continuity of this ministry is critical.    Volunteers are needed to fill the following shifts.

  1.  Monday to Saturday:
    • 8:30am to 11:30am
    • 11:30am to 2:00pm
    • 2:00pm to 4:30pm
  2.  Warming centre, Monday to Sunday:
    • 6pm to 10pm

There are several volunteer positions available:

  1. Greeter
  2. Refreshments
  3. Kitchen Support
  4. Clothing Support

High-level expectations of volunteers are to:

  • Greet and welcome guests
  • Organize food, drinks, and other supplies and present guests with refreshments
  • Prepare refreshments, as required
  • Wash dishes, as required
  • Verbally interact with guests in a safe, respectful, and caring manner
  • Refer guests to on-site social worker, as needed
  • Sanitize/disinfect table used by each guest
  • Disinfect refreshment table/kitchen frequently
  • Sort and fold clothing donations
  • Monitor and report to Centre Coordinator adequacy of supplies and/or additional support for guests.
