Pray for those Impacted by Hurricane Melissa

We continue to pray together that all are surrounded by strength, care, and compassion. May their hearts be filled resilience and hope as recovery and rebuilding efforts endure. We pray especially for those where family and friends have been affected by this storm. We remember Lauren Mais a former parishioner now back in Jamaica. She and her family are well and we will keep you informed as things develop.

Visit Alongsidehope.org and support the relief and development initiatives arising from this devastating hurricane. Thank you.

Synod Highlights Spirit on the Move in Niagara

Synod Highlights Spirit on the Move in Niagara

On November 1, members of Synod gathered for the 151st Synod under the theme “Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.” Bishop Susan Bell’s charge highlighted signs of renewal across the diocese, from growing attendance and new missional initiatives to strengthened financial health. Members of Synod approved the 2026 budget and several canon changes, along with a variety of other business.

The Synod concluded with an inspiring video on the diocese's anniversary year, highlighting the impact of curacies while showcasing the faithfulness and diversity of the diocese, its parishes and communities, and its missional and outreach initiatives.

"It’s almost like the Spirit is out ahead of us," says Bishop Susan, "beckoning us to take baby steps – 'come on, you can do it.' "

An Open Time for Peace and Reflection - First Sunday of the Month 12:30pm-2pm

Our doors are open on the first Sunday of every month during the months of  October to June for anyone to drop in for peace and reflection in the middle of our busy city.  Feel free to light a candle, say a prayer, or just sit quietly in this beautiful space. Maybe you have never been in the Cathedral and just want to have a look around?  Maybe you would just like to listen to some quiet, peaceful music?  Whoever you are, whatever brings you to our doors, you are very welcome. If you have any questions during your visit, there is someone on hand from our Cathedral Community.

For level access please go to the reception door to the left of the main Cathedral entrances.

Please contact Bruce Burbidge if you have any questions.

Discovery Bible Study

Discovery Bible Study

Study the Bible in community through this drop-in participant-focused method of reading scripture together.  Discovery Bible Study is designed to meet the spiritual needs of our participants by considering what the biblical text tells us about God and human beings.

You'll find us in the nave on Thursdays at 11:30am.  All are welcome!

The Litany of Reconciliation

The Litany of Reconciliation

Please join us. Fridays 12:15 -12:30 pm

As a member of the Community of the Cross of Nails, we gather weekly at noon on Fridays to pray for peace, justice, and reconciliation.   We start our prayer with:

We stand together at this Friday noon hour to join with all those churches, schools, and other institutions who have committed themselves to the Community of the Cross of Nails. We search for reconciliation between ourselves and all those who have been harmed by war, by violence, by the effects of colonization and abuses of power, and by greed, selfishness, thoughtlessness and indifference.

Please click on Litany of Reconciliation for the prayer in its entirety.

A brief history of  the Litany of Reconciliation can be found on The Anglican Diocese of Ontario website.

Christmas Cards and Visual Guides

Christmas Cards and Visual Guides

Christmas Cards, Anglican Church Calendars, and Visual Guides-Sales-November 16, to December 21.

We shall be selling the 2026 Canadian Anglican Church Calendars ($10.00), along with Christmas Cards that use Nativity scenes from our beautiful stained-glass Cathedral windows. We started to produce Christmas Cards in 2008 so that you can have religious scenes and a card that uses the word “Christmas” rather than “Happy Holidays”.  We still use the 2008 price of $1.25 per card - what a bargain!

We shall also be selling A Visual Guide to Christ’s Church Cathedral, Hamilton, Ontario for $10.00.  Copies can also be purchased any Sunday from Sandy Darling.
They make a good Christmas present for relatives, friends or former parishioners.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST AND SUPPORT!

More Ways to Give

At the back of the Cathedral, there is a Tap donation device.  You can use your debit or credit card to "tap" and donate $5 to Christ's Church Cathedral.  If you wish to donate more, you can tap up to four times!  Your generosity is appreciated as it allows us to continue to maintain our beautiful building and offer innovative ministry to our community.  While everyone is able to use this device, using the Tap device is particularly useful for one time visitors who do not wish to receive a tax receipt.

Please Note:   Tap donations are not eligible for tax receipts!  If you wish to receive a receipt, please select one of our many donation options by visiting our Give page.  Thank you.

Writing Effective Letters to the Editor

Have you ever been troubled by a story of injustice, a poor decision, or a policy change by your government? Letters to the Editor show politicians and decision-makers that people really do care.  Here’s how to change the conversation, impact public opinion, and make a difference with a well constructed letter:
Checklist for Your Letter
  • Include your full name, address, and phone number (the paper needs to verify who you are).
  • Check the newspaper's word limit.
  • Keep it brief and focused.
  • Start strong: Refer to a recent article, editorial, or news event, or state your key point.
  • Use plain, clear language:  Avoid jargon, keep sentences short.
  • Make it personal and local:  Share a story, local example, or impact.
  • Be respectful but punchy:  Passion is good, but avoid insults or rants.
  • Offer a constructive point of view:  Suggest an action, solution, or next step.
  • Connect to the bigger picture:  Show why this matters - for the community or society.
  • End with a memorable close:  A call to action, a striking fact, or a values-based appeal.

Sample Letter to the Editor

The Ontario government’s replacement of the Endangered Species Act with the Species Conservation Act, 2025 is reckless and shameful. The government must reinstate enforceable provincial protections.  Anything less is a dereliction of duty that will leave a permanent scar on Ontario’s environment.

Alongside Hope

Alongside Hope

Many thanks from Kerry and Inez!

We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Wild Ride initiative this year, be it financially or through prayer or both.  I think we all agree that the solar suitcase project was deserving of our attention and support.

The latest news is that this year's Wild Ride campaign raised $61,000 across Canada, surpassing our goal by $9,000.  Even better, Alongside Hope has raised the necessary $170,000 and with the donor match, the goal of $320,000 has been reached, meaning they are able to purchase all 49 solar suitcases.  Fantastic news!

Many thanks to all who participated and contributed, spiritually and financially.

Urgent Need for Socks & Underwear

Urgent Need for Socks & Underwear

Cathedral Café

As the weather turns colder, our guests at the Cathedral Café are in urgent need of new socks and underwear for both men and women.  These items are often the most needed and least donated and yet make a tremendous difference in the daily comfort and dignity of those experiencing homelessness.

We kindly ask for your support in donating new socks and underwear in all adult sizes.  Donations can be dropped off directly to St. Matt's staff at the Cathedral Café.

Thank you for helping us serve our neighbours with compassion and care.  Your generosity truly makes a difference.

Cathedral & Myler Hall Kitchen Renovations

Construction notice

Bishop Susan and the Cathedral Place Property Management Committee (CPPMC) have approved renovations to the Myler Hall kitchen, the Cathedral narthex and the entrance way to the columbarium. Our general contractor (Alto Mar) plans to begin construction some time next week and estimates that the combined projects will take about one month.

This is wonderful news for the Café and for the Cathedral community. We are deeply grateful to all those who have contributed to bringing us to this stage - it has been a team effort.

We ask for your flexibility, patience and understanding in changes necessary to accommodate the renovations. David Savage is our liaison with Alto Mar. Please feel free to raise questions or concerns with David Savage.

Many thanks. Dean Tim (on behalf of Christ's Church Cathedral Corporation)
