The Moravian Church

A New Full-Communion Member in our Prayer Cycle

Those of you who pray our weekly prayer cycle that includes our full- communion partner, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, will notice a difference starting with this new liturgical year: the Moravian Church in Canada has joined as a new partner in full-communion! Though there are 1 million Moravians currently worshipping worldwide there are less than 6,000 Moravians currently worshipping in Canada. This church is a rich history, beginning in Bohemia and Moravia 100 years before the Anglican Church was established. From the start, they have held that what makes a Christian is not doctrine or what they believe, but that a person lives their life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are marked by their practices of passivism, ecumenism, music, and a passion for bringing the good news of God’s infinite love to the poorest and most despised people of the world. For more information on our new full-communion partners, go to www.moravian.org.

A Message from Generosity Team - from Dale Guenter

I walked into this church for the first time about 22 years ago.  I let the stained glass dappled light, the sacred pipes and voices, and the teachings of love, all wash over me. I felt I was in God’s presence.  Soon Brian Kreps, my partner, began coming here as well and we have felt welcomed, held and nourished here for more than 20 years. It did not take long and we felt we wanted to contribute.  At different times we sang in choir, helped organize service teams, cooked food, joined committees, helped welcome the neighbourhood and organized prayer groups. On another note, Brian and I sometimes think about the money that has come to us. We have felt deeply blessed. We keep coming back to the question, is there a way we can channel this money to fuel love in our world? The blessing of money comes to each of us differently. It’s incredibly personal.
It has also been very important for us to support this community of Christ’s Church Cathedral. We give to Christ’s Church every month, through pre-authorized giving. Automatic. So it is just part of life, part of our household budget, not an option, as essential as our utilities at home.
And now we include Christ’s Church Cathedral as a beneficiary in our wills. We feel we are helping to fuel love in a powerful way.
As a community, we are nearing the end of Monica Romig Green’s 18 months formation with us as a priest. We have learned just how gifted she truly is, and how well she fits with and inspires our community and our mission. We are growing as a congregation, in size and in soul. Our outreach work is growing too. We won’t keep up with Tim doing all this alone and we have a one-time opportunity to make a long-term commitment to have Monica stay with us for the foreseeable future. To keep her will require a substantial increase in the church budget.
New money will have to come from all of us. Brian and I have decided to make a substantial increase in our contribution for the next 5 years, starting in January, hoping we can have “Team Tim and Monica” into the future. This kind of decision is not for everyone.
We are grateful to be able to be supportive in this way. We now enter Advent and soon a new year.
Maybe this is a good time for all of us to reflect on what God has given us that we in turn can contribute to the work of love.

Christmas is quickly approaching and once again, under the leadership of Richard Cunningham and Gen McIntyre, we are planning the 3rd Annual Cathedral Café Christmas Dinner.  The dinner will be held in the Cathedral Café from 1 pm to 3 pm on December 25th.

In anticipation of 200 to 250 guests, we will be using the Cathedral as the waiting area for our dinner guests  and also to serve dessert following the turkey dinner, which will allow for the flow of guests for the dinner.  Each guest will receive a gift card and a chocolate bar.

We are seeking volunteers to assist with:

  • Dinner preparation/cooking December 22, 23, and/or 24
  • Reception/greeter and /distribution of gifts on December 25 (12:30pm to 3pm)
  • Serving of the meal on December 25 (12:30pm to 3pm)
  • Managing the overflow space in the Cathedral and serving coffee/tea/hot chocolate and the desserts (12pm to 3pm)
  • Runners and clean up crew during the meal (12:30pm to 3pm)
  • Clean up crew following the meal (2 pm to 4:30pm)

In addition to onsite volunteers, we are also needing desserts to serve on Christmas day. Desserts not requiring forks are preferred (e.g. tarts, cakes, squares, homemade cookies, etc.).  If you are able to provide dessert(s), please email Roseann Barry.

  • If you are able to assist with the dinner preparation/cooking on December 22, 23, and/or 24, please email Richard Cunningham.
  • If you are able to assist with greeting, serving and/or clean up on December 25, please email Kerry Lubrick.

Shop our World of Gifts

As December approaches, thoughts turn to Christmas baking, spending time with friends and family, and gift-giving.   Popular gift-giving options include Secret Santa exchanges, minimizing gift budgets,  or sharing gifts with others - all with a focus of acquiring fewer material items.

Currently, PWRDF has a matching program for any items purchased through their Gift Catalogue. You can spend as little as $20 for seeds for women in Kenya, or $25 for a New Baby Kit in Lesotho. Please access their catalogue at  World of Gifts.    Your gift purchase is eligible for a tax receipt from PWRDF and, more importantly, you will have made a difference in the life of others less fortunate.

Happy gift-giving to all!

Full program details are available on Shop Our World of Gifts.

Stimulate the economy where you live. Why? For the impact on plastics alone!
8.3 billion tonnes of plastic have been manufactured since the 1950s! Every single piece of plastic ever made still exists, and will continue existing for at least 500 years! 60% of all the plastic ever produced now lies discarded in landfill, the oceans, or as litter!

2024 Parish Photos

Your Generosity Team is busy at work, putting together this year's Narrative Budget.
Do you have any pictures of parish events in 2024 that show parishioners working, worshipping, or fellowshipping together?
If so, we'd love to have you send them to us as they might be just what we need for the Narrative Budget.  We will, of course, give credit to the photographer.
