PWRDF
Food Relief Program Delivers Hope in Kenya In late June, the Humanitarian Coalition – comprising 12 leading aid agencies in Canada – launched an appeal to respond to the hunger emergency unfolding around the world, including in many sub-Saharan African countries. The goal was to raise funds to assist people on the edge of famine. The Canadian Government matched donations up to $5 million. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a member of the Humanitarian Coalition and, as PWRDF belongs to the Foodgrains Bank, it was eligible to participate in the matching program. Donors quickly responded, giving $99,651 during the matching period. PWRDF was selected to oversee one of the resulting projects and is now working with Church World Service Kenya to deliver a food assistance project in Marsabit County, Kenya. Marsabit is one of the worst affected counties to be hit by the current drought facing the Horn of Africa. It is estimated that close to 95% of the population is experiencing food insecurity, with 30% of the population facing emergency food insecurity levels. Church World Service Kenya has begun to provide four in-kind food transfers to 4,000 of the most vulnerable households (an estimated 22,000 individuals). YOU can support PWRDF and its partners' initiatives like this one by donating to PWRDF at https://pwrdf.org/give-today, For additional information on other ways to support PWRDF, please contact your Parish Representative at louise.vanwoelderen@gmail.com or 905-387-1820 |
Welcome Bruce!
Welcome Bruce! This Sunday marks the first Sunday with our new Director of Music, Bruce Burbidge. Bruce brings with him a wealth of experience and an enthusiasm to bring beautiful music to our Cathedral. In his own words: "It feels great to be here at Christ's Church Cathedral, helping to spread the Good News of God's love through music. I have just returned to Canada after over 40 years based in England, making music and also being active in other aspects of Christian ministry. I look forward to getting to know you all better, and to exploring together how to make music best serve our community and mission." Please join us in welcoming Bruce as he assumes his new role! Welcome Bruce! |

Cathedral Offertory
The Cathedral has now resumed the passing of Offering Plates. The plates will be passed by the Greeters and brought to the altar with the elements. You may recall this was suspended at the beginning of the pandemic, when there was uncertainty about how the virus was spread, and replaced by a box near the Narthex. At the Offertory, we offer back some of what God has given us, symbolically in the bread and wine, and in our contributions toward the work of the church. All are invited to support the sharing of God’s love with the world through giving by Pre-Authorized Payment, online through our website (for details, please use link below) or by weekly envelope. Masks Strongly Recommended
Current guidelines encourage mask wearing, particularly in crowded, enclosed, and close-contact settings. Effective immediately, Bishop Susan is strengthening guidance to mirror the chief medical officer of health's strong recommendation that masks be worn in indoor settings. By doing so, and applying additional layers of protection, we will not only protect ourselves but our most vulnerable neighbours. In this way, we are also bearing strong witness to God's call to love our neighbours. |
Lectionary Study
Join Matthew Green weekly for a lectionary study after the 2nd service each week. |
