Humanitarian Coalition Hunger Relief Appeal
According to the World Food Programme, 50 million people are facing emergency levels of hunger and the number of severely food insecure people has more than doubled in the last two years. In response to the hunger emergency unfolding around the world, twelve leading Canadian aid agencies are joining forces as the Humanitarian Coalition to raise funds and rush assistance to people on the edge of famine. One of those agencies is the Canadian Foodgrains Bank of which PWRDF is a member. The Canadian Government has committed $250 million to address the global food crisis and announced it will match donations to the Humanitarian Coalition’s member charities 1:1, up to $5 million. Donations made by July 17, 2022 are eligible. How You Can Help All donations made by individuals to PWRDF’s Humanitarian Coalition Hunger Relief Appeal by July 17th will be matched by the Government of Canada 1:1. MESSAGE FROM THE GENEROSITY TEAM
One of the ways you can make a real difference in the Cathedral's cash flow is by making your offering via pre-authorized debit from your bank account. This is true year-round, but it's especially important during the summer months. If you're lucky you'll be away on vacation for a while this summer, but the Cathedral's expenses don't go on holiday. Pre-authorized withdrawals are a great solution, as your offering is received whether you're here or not. To set up pre-authorized giving for the first time, you'll need to complete the authorization form on the Diocese of Niagara's website, available here. Once the form is complete with a void blank cheque attached, return it to the Cathedral office or put it in the donation box at the back of the church clearly marked "Pre-authorized gift form." It's important to know that you can cancel or change your pre-authorized gift at any time by completing the same form. If you're an envelope user and just aren't comfortable with pre-authorized withdrawals, you can help tremendously by filling your envelopes with post-dated cheques in advance to cover the period you'll be gone. Then, just put them in the donation box at the back of the church as usual before you leave. As always, the Generosity Team thanks you so much for your financial support of our beautiful church and vibrant community! |
PANDEMIC GREEN STAGE
With the sixth wave of the pandemic receding across Ontario, we are pleased to share the news that Bishop Susan Bell has moved the diocese from the Amber to Green Stage of its pandemic framework effectively pausing many of our most restrictive practices. Accordingly, masking has become optional in most situations and physical contact will be possible at the Peace for those who wish. This Sunday, communion will be offered in both kinds (bread and wine) from one station, and in one kind (bread only) from another for those who choose not to drink from the common cup. We will be reviewing our practices on an ongoing basis for the safety and comfort of all. We will share updates with those attending worship and programs at the cathedral in both the Chronicle and at the beginning of services. Basic pandemic best practices continue to be encouraged. These include practicing good hand and respiratory hygiene, staying home if feeling unwell, and maintaining physical distance as much as possible. While optional, we encourage the continued use of masks. Please remain aware that the needs and comfort level among individuals varies and be mindful in how you interact with others. We hope and pray that we will be able to remain in the Green Stage through much of the fall, if not longer, and that this is welcome news. We want to hear from you, particularly if you are uncomfortable with these changes. Please don’t hesitate to contact the office by phone or at cathedral@niagaraanglican.ca. |
